Hosted by Jeff Johnston. Come and join the fun if you sing, play an instrument, dance, or all three. Make new friends! We have a regular group but always looking for more participants. Show up and we’ll get you up to sing or play! All skill levels welcomed. Bring some friends!
This is an informal, self-directed drum gathering. There are no formal hosts, teachers, guides, or facilitators. Participants are responsible for their own experience, their own volume, their own behavior, and their own sense of comfort.
Over time, the Monday night circle has developed into a harder, louder, faster, more assertive style of drumming. Many participants use it as a place to release energy, play intensely, and drum in a more physically strenuous way.
Some people enjoy that style and find it energizing. Others may experience it as competitive, overwhelming, repetitive, or difficult to enter as a beginner.
This circle may be a good fit for you if:
You enjoy loud, high-energy, hard-hitting drumming
You are comfortable jumping into an informal jam without much guidance
You do not need a structured beginner-friendly container
You can hold your own rhythmically in a strong and assertive group sound
You are comfortable with a circle where people mostly self-regulate
You are looking for an established weekly outdoor drumming location
You are comfortable with an adult, loosely held environment
This circle may not be the best fit if:
You are brand new and want nurturing instruction
You are bringing children and want a clearly family-centered environment
You are looking for a substance-conscious or sober-feeling container
You want a circle with active facilitation or group agreements
You are sensitive to loud, repetitive, or aggressive playing
You want a space where dancers, women, children, and beginners are actively supported and invited in
You prefer a community-centered circle where listening, blending, and shared rhythm are intentionally prioritized
